The Gore REVISE study is a randomized study. It has been designed to establish the effectiveness and safety of the GORE VIABAHN® Endoprosthesis (stent) with PROPATEN Bioactive Surface in prosthetic hemodialysis grafts. This specialized graft will be used to treat narrowing at the venous end of the graft in order to maintain or re-establish the vascular access for hemodialysis. The goal of the study is to track the natural course of the vascular access as the Subject undergoes regular hemodialysis at their respective dialysis center. Participants will be followed at 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 - months post-procedure to assess the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate factors associated with medication discrepancies and adverse events that increase medical liability during transition from hospitals to home.
Enrolled patients will be individuals with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), who were recently in the hospital. Subjects will participate in a focus group to learn more about their recent experiences when discharging from hospital to home. Information will be obtained regarding what health care professionals could do to help them better understand their medicines and how to take them once they return home. We hope the information gathered will help us find ways to make the hospital discharge process and the first days at home better for patients with CKD.
Nephrology is the study of the function and diseases of the kidney and related organs. Diseases of the kidneys can impact other organ systems in the body. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is often related to kidney disease.
The kidneys are organs that cleanse the blood by removing waste and excess fluids. They also have a role in maintaining a healthful balance of various body chemicals, and help to regulate blood pressure.
When the kidneys become diseased or damaged, they can suddenly or gradually lose their ability to perform these vital functions. Waste products and excess fluid then build up inside the body, causing a variety of symptoms, particularly swelling of the hands and feet, shortness of breath, and a frequent urge to urinate. If left untreated, diseased kidneys may eventually stop functioning. Loss of kidney function is a very serious and potentially fatal condition.
Kidney, or renal, disease is classified as either acute (when loss of function occurs suddenly) or chronic (when deterioration takes place gradually, perhaps over a period of years). The chronic form can be particularly insidious: it may not show any symptoms until considerable, often irreparable damage has been done.
This study will be conducted at multiple centers including PMRC. The purpose of this study is to collect information and gain knowledge about a kidney disease called nephrotic syndrome (NS). Individuals with NS will be asked to provide basic health information, blood & urine samples, nail clippings and to undergo a kidney biopsy. The information gathered will be used for future studies in NS.
