VentrAssist Left Ventricular Assist Device as Bridge to Transplant

Description:
Patients awaiting a heart transplant who are too ill to survive until a heart is found are implanted with this centrifugal force pump. It is designed to support their heart for months to years until a donor heart is available.

Eligibility:
  • Able to sign Informed Consent and Release of Medical Information Forms 
  • Age ≥ 18 years 
  • BSA ≥ 1.5m
  • Approved for cardiac transplantation by the institution's multidisciplinary transplantation committee 
  • Patient for whom LVAD implantation is planned as a clinically indicated bridge to cardiac transplantation 
  • Able to return to the clinical site for all routine follow-up while the LVAD is in.

Exclusions:
  •   Cardiac surgery within 30 days of enrollment
  • Heart Attack within the last two day
  • Heart transplant, or LVAD in place at time of surgery
  • Un-repairable aortic valve
  • Severe bleeding disorders or liver disease
  • Dialysis or creatinine greater than 3.5
  • Stroke in the last 90 days
  • Peripheral vascular disease of the legs that causes you pain or ulcerations
  • Unable to take blood thinners
  • Other exclusion criteria may apply. Please contact study coordinator.
